Congratulations to Federal Way High School scholar, Valerie Nieto-Vieyra, for earning 2nd place in the 25th Literacy Contest hosted by the Center of Spanish Studies at the University of Washington in the High School category of poetry for native speakers of Spanish.

Congratulations to Decatur High School scholars who participated in the WIAA/WMEA State Solo and Ensemble Contest, which brings the finest of Washington’s high school music students together to hear each other in a competitive situation.

Carter Mitchell won first place in the Euphonium/Baritone category. Kayla Koo won third place for the Flute-Piccolo category.

We’re proud of our Decatur scholars who placed at this competitive event.

We’re proud of all our mathletes who participated in the 12th annual Federal Way Math Contest for students in grades 4-8! Schools from multiple districts competed in this event.

  • Sacajawea Middle School earned 1st Place in the 6th/7th/8th Grade Team Test
  • Woodmont K-8 earned 2nd Place in the 4th/5th Grade Team Test
  • Kilo Middle School earned 3rd Place in the 6th/7th/8th Grade Team Test

Additionally, we’d like to recognize 13 scholars who placed first through third in the individual math categories:

Asher Bonnah, Chloe Blumberg, Declan Bunting, Ian Lee, Kaiden Shinn, Katelyn Kirschbaum, Keegan Montoya, Loza Fekade, Lyle Lee, Nathaniel Kelley, Shaurya Sharma, Tyler Phan, and Varun Tayi.

We’re proud of our third through fifth grade scholars who participated in the district-wide Battle of the Books! In this competition, scholars answer questions about 12 books they collectively read as a team.

Congratulations to the scholars who placed first through third at the district tournament:

  1. Camelot Elementary’s team, “The MJ’Z (with a Z)”, earned first place in the district-wide competition.
  2. In second place, there was a 3-way tie between Enterprise Elementary’s team “Sponge Bob Squarepants”, Internet Academy’s “Internet Invaders”, and Lake Grove Elementary’s “The Golden Dragons”. 
  3. In third place, there was a 2-way tie between Green Gables Elementary’s team “Calculating Cuties” and Valhalla Elementary’s team “The Book Guys v.2”.

Congratulations to our scholar athletes from Federal Way, Todd Beamer, and Thomas Jefferson high schools for signing their National Letter of Intent (NLI) to continue their education and athletic pursuits in college.

American Idol is an American singing competition that gathers singers from across the country to compete for a record deal with a major label and become the next singing sensation.

Thank you to the 2022-23 Scholar Representatives to the Board!

In Federal Way Public Schools, incorporating student voice is central to informing the work of serving our scholars.

Students from the Scholar Advisory to the Superintendent team presented a recommendation and outlined the application and selection process for the Scholar Representatives to the Board.

The purpose of scholar representatives’ participation at board meetings is to provide valuable input on school district operations.
